Am I Polyamorous? Answers for the Nervous Newbie
“I like the idea of polyamory, but I think I’m too jealous.” “My spouse suggested opening our marriage, and I’m curious, but scared.” “Am I normal if I don’t want to date just one person at a time?” Do any of these describe you? If so, you’re in good company! Never before has the concept of polyamory been so out there in mainstream conversation (or, more broadly, ethical/consensual non-monogamy including open marriages, swinging, and relationship anarchy). Gen Z is growing up seeing polyamory as an option from the start. Some studies suggest that as much as 20% of the population has at least one poly relationship under their belt. But is it right for YOU? In this one-hour workshop led by Rebecca Rose Vassy, you’ll get real talk about what polyamory is and isn’t, the challenges you might face, and how to figure out whether or not it’s a road you want to take. You’ll be surprised to learn why jealousy isn’t a dealbreaker, that your love style can be fluid, and how your partner having partners can be great for you, too! During this session, we’ll talk about: - The different shapes that non-monogamy can take - The jealousy thing– you know you’re burning to talk about it! - Questions to ask yourself before starting your poly journey - Questions to discuss with your partner before opening your marriage - The norms that polyamory challenges– and how that challenge benefits us all Rebecca Rose Vassy is a sex, relationship, and body image educator and coach with The Pincus Center, creating blog posts and web-based resources in addition to her other work. As her alter ego Diva Darling, she is the host and producer of the erotic storytelling open mic Smut Slam DC, a burlesque performer and teacher, and the editor of Anonymous Sex Vol. I. She created and wrote the Blooms Blog for education-based adult store Lotus Blooms, where she was a resident educator; she has also taught for Black Rose, DC After Dark, Joe’s Movement Emporium, and numerous sex-positive and sacred sexuality festivals. Class recording from 7/3/24. Please reach out to contact@tamarapincus.com if you need sliding scale.
